TERRANCE WALLACE
Big family. Big dreams.
While our family may appear large in numbers, we are one. Interests in our family vary widely, from playing football, basketball, and soccer, to riding horses, loving animals of all kinds, and of course gaming.
Our boys’ career interests include engineering, law enforcement, medicine, real estate, music, professional sports, law, technology, gaming and business.
We’re excited to be part of the community. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me any time at twallace@inzoneproject.org.

What Is the InZone Project?
Frequently Asked Questions
History
The InZone Project is a not-for-profit providing disadvantaged kids with access to a safe community and a top education.
InZone began in 2011 in Auckland, New Zealand, in partnership with Auckland grammar school. The initial focus was only on secondary students. The inaugural home started with 28 boys and grew to 55. Later, a second home started with 28 girls. InZone USA officially started in 2018.
All parents have been proactive in providing their kids with the InZone experience, also in sharing guardianship and entering into a coparenting agreement and are equally involved in their education, lives in the home, and discipline. I (Terrance) simply act as a surrogate father.
I felt called by God to go there, and 4 weeks later I was on my way!
So, challenges were that something like this had never been done before. They had preconceived opinions about the demographic I was bringing in. There was racism particularly against the native people, however all of those challenges were reconciled after meeting the boys and witnessing the InZone experience

I was led by my faith in God and was moved by the state of the youth in this city.
InZone operates as a 501c3 and receives donations, volunteers, mentors, and a variety of resources to support the growth of all the participants. It also supports Terrance who cares for the children and supports others who fill called to this work and desire to replicate the model. The next replication is in 2021, in Indiana with the Calumet Township n partnership with AgreaterU.

I grew up in a single-parent, disadvantaged home and went to school out of Zone. This taught me the value of diversity and led me to be bilingual and cultured. I want to share that same experience with other disadvantaged youth.
I am a 50% owner of a biometric technology company and is now accessible globally (www.scanone.tech)
barrington hills
Barrington Hills offers the best possible living situation for our family. Additionally, it is part of an amazing school district. The Barrington area provides a great community of neighbors and people in general.
We have faced zoning blocks, discrimination of various types and prejudices. I have learned that some of those aren't isolated to just us. The Village took issue with our program's structure, because they did not recognize the validity of legal guardianship.
My biggest concern is that, because I am an outsider, I will not receive equal and fair treatment. I have been communicating with them for two years, and have not received a response.
People have been concerned with property taxes not being paid, but as a nonprofit we are exempt from property taxes. They have also been concerned about whether this is a group home, where the boys come from and a host of other things. I have responded by hosting community town hall meetings (with over 500 in attendance) and spoke to various churches and organizations to help spread awareness of the InZone mission and vision.
boys

Our boys are young black and brown men from the inner city, mainly single children from single moms who are experiencing disadvantages and come from dangerous neighborhoods.
The boys join us when they are in middle school or high school, and they do not age out. We support them through university.
Some of the boys' challenges are related to academics, trauma, adapting to the new environment, and experiencing a lack of resources before coming to InZone.
The boys find us through word of mouth, social media or our website. They inquire and initiate interest, and that's how the relationship begins.
The number one criterion is that the child must want to be here, and after that they have to fit the InZone model. They must agree to adhere to the no drug or alcohol policy, and then we assess our ability to accommodate them.
Yes, they would be disqualified if they are violent, have a criminal record, and/or extreme behavioral challenges.
They love the home; this is the biggest house they have ever lived in.
The indoor basketball court!
They worry if they are going to be accepted and/or discriminated against.
House/living situation
Please see this video for more information
The property is a good fit for the mission of InZone because it offers space; it has an indoor basketball court; it has multiple family rooms, bedrooms, and showers; it has the potential for expansion and it is secluded.
Yes they live here full time, but absolutely continue to have relationships and contact with their family!
We have volunteer support and people who help with the boys with various activities, prepare meals, and serve as an all-around supporting team.
We have family-style meals and eat at the table together every evening. We have a volunteer roster where people sign up to provide meals and come to dine with us as a way to get to know one another.
Efficacy
Kids have gone to university, graduated, and started on their career paths. Past InZone graduates are now doctors, lawyers, engineers, bankers, social workers and professional rugby players.
Yes, if a child is unwilling to adapt to the new environment or refuses to adhere to the nonnegotiables (i.e., substance abuse and violent behavior).
funding
Our work is funded by the tax-deductible gifts of generous donors.
We are currently raising funds to support a $2.5 million capital campaign.
- Capital expenditures
- Property investment and maintenance
- Support for extracurricular activities
- Diverse experiences for the boys
- University tuition
future/other
It is not true that we are a group home for kids with behavioral issues or criminal backgrounds.
Our vision is to replicate our model and support individuals who want to live out the model within their families and across the world.
The current challenges with COVID and the civil unrest are our greatest hurdles, in addition to gaining support from our neighbors and raising capital.
My greatest hope is for the boys to have a transformational experience through Christ, to gain an education and to increase their employment opportunities.
Help and Assistance
We are seeking time, treasure and talent. We welcome those who have expertise in growing capital campaigns, coming out to speak to our boys, telling our story, building partnerships, providing in-kind donations (furniture, vehicles, etcetera) or sponsoring experiences for the boys. We need all of that and more! Please feel free to contact us to discuss ways in which you can help-all are welcomed!
